July Glossybox

Well, what better way to start my beauty/home/fashion blog than with a beauty entry about the ultimate beauty fix? I'm talking, of course, about Glossybox.

For those who've never heard of the concept, firstly where have you been

Secondly, it's basically a monthly subscription service whereby you pay a set amount (currently £10 but this is increasing soon, I'll get to that later though*) to receive a box (or a Glossybox) of five 'luxury product' samples per month. In a nutshell the idea is to provide a cost effective way to try before you buy.

The company has been sending out Glossyboxes since May, but sadly I missed the boat on the May and June boxes and so the July Glossybox is my first one (cue much excitement).

It has to be said that the May box caused a right old hoo-hah because, well, it was so bloody good really. It contained a full size Nars Orgasm illuminator for starters not to mention and a full size All For Eve lipstick. A red one too. Yes, it's fair to say I was rather disappointed that I didn't get a May box.

The June box, on the other hand, also caused a hoo-hah - but unfortunately for completely different reasons. Lots of people were massively disappointed by the inclusion of Batiste dry shampoo. Well, not just disappointed, actually incensed by it from what I read. I'm not sure I'd have been that chuffed to receive it in a box supposedly containing 'luxury' samples, I will admit. But at the same time, I did sort of think that as a fledgling company Glossybox deserved perhaps a bit of slack.

So while Glossybox hit the spot in May, by all accounts the June box left everyone disappointed and with this in mind I did sort of expect to be disappointed with the July box, because y'know there wasn't going to be a full size Nars product and a red lippy in it was there?

Well no, there wasn't, but nonetheless it certainly wasn't disappointing by any stretch of the imagination.

My July box contained the following:

If you ask me, that list packs an impressive amount of product in for just £10*. Going purely on value the Weleda oil and LP lip gel are worth £20 a piece. Not to mention £15 for the pure pigment.

As for the products themselves - while I won't review them in any depth now - I can say that I'm not disappointed with a single one.

Briefly...

The Weleda body oil smells gorgeous and I love body oils so I'm very excited about trying this.

The LP Skin Therapy lip gel is not something I'd buy - but I do love lip products (just not ones that cost £20 when Carmex does a perfectly good job!) so I'm pleased to have received it.

The pure pigment - this I am incredibly, incredibly excited about. It's a beautiful purple colour (good for green eyes like mine too!!) and I've wanted to try something by Illamasqua for aaaages now. Yes, very excited.

The nail polish is very pretty, a nice colour and the sort of thing I'd wear.

The Ultrasun sample is probably the most 'boring' product. But being obsessed with putting SPF on my face EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. I'm certainly not adverse to trying something new in this vein (if it's better than my beloved SuperCity block I'll be [pleasantly] surprised though).

So, in summary - it's a big, big, big thumbs up for the July Glossybox from me!

I will review individual products in more detail (if I think they are so deserving) once I'd have a chance to try them properly. Plus I am concious this blog is getting very, very long (well done, and thank you, if you made it this far!).
*Oh, yes... the price part... for the first three months Glossybox didn't charge postage and packaging, but from now on they'll be adding £2.95 p&p onto the price of the boxes (£12.95 in total). I'm still undecided as to whether this will affect my desire to keep up my subscription.
